>I had horrible "mouse hand" a number of years ago. My boss found me a giant ridgid mousepad that strapped onto the arm of an office chair like a school desk. This meant no more pressure of the desk edge on my arm, as well as no reaching. Space-wise, it worked with a mouse; better with a trackball. Now you can get wireless mice, and that would solve the big problem with the chair-based mousepad (besides knocking it off the arm/pad).

I don't think I've ever seen a mouse pad marketed like that, but after a
little googling, found one at http://www.mousearm.com/ which attaches
with cable ties. It looks a lot like what you're describing; is this it?
It also sounds a lot like a pilot's kneeboard, which you gan get via the
net or at any local airport with a pilot's shop. (Pick one with a lot of
training schools.) Those usually have clipboards and sometimes even
binders, though, so it may be hard to find one simple enough to be a
good mousing surface. There's one specifically marketed as a leg-mounted
mouse pad at http://www.ergomousepad.com/
