I believe Jean Hollis Weber, who has been a member of this list (and may
still be), is one of the valiant people trying to improve the user
guide.

Coming in a bit late on this thread as I have been offline for
several weeks and am only now skimming through the archives.

I have nothing to do with the user guide that Sarah refers to,
which was was put together by one person (GR Singleton, the
co-lead of the OpenOffice.org Documentation Project).

I am the lead editor for a series of user guides for OOo V2 being
produced by a group of people known as OOoAuthors. These books
are also being made available through the Documentation Project.

The OOoAuthors' books have their own problems, which I and other
editors are slowly addressing. (Bonnie Granat refers to this in
another note.) As you might imagine, quality control in a project
comprising over 20 volunteers with varying levels of writing
skill is, shall we say, an interesting exercise.

We are publishing the draft OOoV2 guides as separate chapters as
they are finished, and putting together full books when we can
(which will eventually be available in reasonably-priced printed
versions as well as free PDF downloads). You can check the draft

If you'd like to help out on the project, we can always use more
