Re Word:
Brian,
If you have attached a template to a document, Normal.dot is still loaded.
It's always loaded, regardless of what template you attach to a document. To
prove this to yourself, in the Templates and Add-ins dialog box, under
Global templates and add-ins, try to Add the Normal.dot template. You will
see a message box that says that Normal.dot is already open "as an add-in
program."
Bottom line: Whatever styles are available for your use in Normal.dot are
available for your use regardless of what template you have attached to a
document.
But they evidently don't allow you to transfer those styles in the way you
are attempting.
What you can do is apply a Normal.dot style that you want in another
template to the document in which you working that has another template
attached to it. Do the procedure for creating a style from existing text (I
forget how right now, but it's there somewhere) and then save the document
and say YES when the program asks you if you want to save the XXXX.dot
template and keep the changes you just made.
