Yes, excellent point. At this point, I have at one time learned:
Fortran
Watfor
Basic
PL/1
IBM Assembler
SPL
SPL/II
Cobol
Algol
Pascal
C
C++
Eiffel
SmartTalk
Java
Javascript
Perl
Python
KSH
CSH
Forth
Lisp
Modula-2
PL/SQL

each of which was considered the ultimate programming language. Motto:
it's the ultimate programming language until the *next* ultimate
programming language comes out. Corollary: There's always something new
to learn.

I agree, but I'd modify the statement slightly. You don't need to know
a specific language, but you need to know programming languages in
general -- enough so that you can quickly learn another one, or can
sense when something may not be quite right and needs to be checked.
