We have course material which consists of:
* a PPT slide presentation
* a course manual, which is a word document containing the slides, plus some commentary text.

We inserted the slides into the doc using Paste Special > Paste link As PPT Object.

This gives the desired effect that updates in the PPT are reflected in the doc. However, it is bloating the doc. The PPT is 1MB, containing 60 slides. For each slide we add to the doc, the doc gains 1MB.

Unfortunately, at 60MB the doc becomes difficult to handle.
