Distilling PDFs from Word - where have my bookmarks gone?

Hi all.
My first time posting, so please bear with me.
I'm trying to make a link from an html page to specific places in a PDF
which I distill from Word.
I'm running:
* Word 2002, SP3
* Windows 2000 Pro.
* Acrobat 6.0 (writer plus Acrobat Distiller 6.0)
The doc has several "bookmarks" inserted (eg "recovery_corporate_coms"
and "recovery_decontamination")
When I select "convert to Adobe PDF", it seems to successfully convert
TOCs, cross references etc.
But I suspect the Word Bookmarks are not being converted to Adobe
Destinations.
I have figured out how to manually insert Destinations once the PDF has
been created. Hence I have been able to prove that either of the
following html links work:
<a href="Crisis_Management_Plan.pdf#nameddest=recovery_corporate_coms">
<a href="Crisis_Management_Plan.pdf#recovery_corporate_coms">
ie without the "nameddest="
But I DO NOT fancy the prospect of doing that each time I update the
Word file (and then convert). Some of you might say "well just edit it
direct in Adobe", but none of my SMEs have Acrobat writer - some are
marginally skilled with Word!
So I am assuming one of my conversion settings is wrong. I have been
right through the MS Word and Acrobat settings, but nothing has jumped
out at me. Can anyone help?
