If you register your own domain name, then you don't have to check and
verify the information.
Each domain registration and hosting problem I've seen is compounded
when a company or individual who owns the domain does not have a
procedure to log in and switch their hosting when absolutely
necessary. If the webhost host has this information, and is
unavailable, then you are stuck.
The best advice, IMO, is to register a domain with a large,
competitive registrar for less than $10 per year. The better ones
provide an advanced interface, renewal notices by email, and tech
support.
