Gene, not sure about your state law, but I was inspired by your
comments to finally look up the recent new DOL (US Federal) regulations
concerning tech writers:

It seems under Federal law, TWs are specifically exempted from
time-and-a half pay. UNLESS they make less than $27.63/hr, which is not
an unusual offer these days. 

So if you are offered exactly $27.63/hour, hold out for $27.62 :-)

I'm not affected because I'm a contractor, but I wonder if any TW
employees have been affected by this regulation?
