If your employer changes the terms to hourly against your wishes, you
could always leave - or you could stay and change your behavior:

1. If they pay time and a half overtime, feast on it until they scream
in pain - you may end up making more than before.

2. If they don't pay time-and-a half overtime, make darn sure you don't
work one nanosecond over 40 hours. Set a wristwatch alarm for quitting
time. When there's work to do after hours, tell them to give it to the
second shift. If they call you a clockwatcher, remind them it was their
idea.

3. More likely, they will want you to do OT only at their sudden whim,
or only with "approval." In that case, say "No thank you" and see #2
above.

But these are all nasty passive-aggressive behaviors; hopefully you
won't have to go there. Employers should try not to push their staff
into such corners.

OK, now I'm ready for all the usual suspects to grandstand about how
they would fire/never hire anyone with such an attitude :-)

Mike O.
