Not from WITHIN a table. You'll have to break the table, and reconstruct the headers for a restart on the next page, even using the CSS "page-break-after" property.

That's why I say it essentially doesn't work -- at least not in the way folks accustomed to document processing apps expect. (Jerry knows this but I'll go on anyhow).

There's no page size in XHTML/CSS2 and no known text-size (since users can resize text). All you can do with CSS print properties is suggest a few things:

"If a user were printing this [XHTML] page, using a device
and printable area and paper size and font-size and a few
more variables we can't know, try to force page breaks
generally at these points."

All bets are off on browser support, whether your CSS2 page breaks and widow/orphan hints will cascade poorly, what the heck kinda browser or printer you're using ... all that. XHTML ain't a print medium. CSS3 aims to improve control in this area, but we're talking about an environment-independent medium. Again: there's no known paper size or anything else to base page breaks on.

I've little experience with this Robo-Whatever that seems so common, but I wonder if it hasn't taken license in assuming an environment (MSIE, fixed-pixel font sizes, whatever Windows can glean about installed printers, etc.) and created the illusion that HTML is a controlled print medium -- you know, restarting tables and table headings to make it work.

If so I'm no help. The issue would then be confined to Robo-Thing's settings and assumptions. XHTML, the quite beautiful standard, is not in that hunt.
