In that spirit, wouldn't you agree that Orwell's Rules pertain to all
languages, and that they can be applied *while* mastering a second
language? They're conceptual, and portable.
Let verbs carry nuance. Don't use clichés (if you're not sure it's a
cliché, it is). No unnecessary modifiers. No inessential words.
The result isn't spare, it's magical, especially considering Orwell's
last: break these rules if you must. But if you've followed them to
that point, a little fudging won't hurt.
