TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
In the older version (1.1) there is definitely an outline view. You
get there by choosing the Navigator (Edit --> Navigator) and then
clicking the "outline" icon; you can then specify how many
outline/heading levels you want to view, and you're in "outline" mode.
Basically, all of the outline functionality (as far as I know)
requires you to use the Navigator and predefined outline/heading
styles. It is not as intuitive as Word's outline features, but it's
there and it's reasonably serviceable. Perhaps someone more
experienced with OO's outliner will speak up -
I am not yet using the new (2.0 beta) version, but a quick read of the
new features list doesn't seem to indicate any major improvement or
changes in outline functionality.
