Sorry, but this is simply not so. Developers may not
understand what the Marketing-intended user *thinks* the darn thing will do (usually because Marketing is
running around making promises to users that developers
could have told them couldn't be kept if they'd only been
asked), but usually understands perfectly "what the darn thing does."

As a technical publications manager, I am often in the
position of having to educate writers to what is often
an unhappy reality for them: in the vast majority of cases the engineers can indeed do your job. They just can't do your job *and* their job simultaneously and produce quality results within project deadlines.
And BTW, most of my friends are decidedly "geeky," and are perfectly capable of interacting socially with
anyone they don't perceive as having a prejudicially
low opinion of them.
