Far from perfect. More like looking for a medical writer with medical
experience (and yes, there are medwriter jobs that require someone
with an MD or similar experience to qualify).
As far as the "direct approach" is concerned, there's nothing wrong
with it, unless you're particular technology is rather obscure and you
know that you're going to have to take someone with experience in
less specialized areas and train to suit.
