Not at all close. It's a perfectly reaasonable requirement for the
writer to know the subject. In fact, I'd say it is a necessary
requirement (but what do I know...I'm interested in ways to prove
it).

Just because not everyone who calls themselves a writer may be
eligible for the position, this does not make it an unreasonable
requirement.
