When contracting, I prefer to work:
Most of the time, the answer is whichever one I'm not doing. If I'm on site for the entire week, I wish I could work at home. When I'm working from home, I start wanting to drop by the office - if only so I can see some new faces.
Right now, I have no choice except to work from home, since the only tech-writing project I'm involved with is for a client in Jamaica. We keep explaining that we really need to spend two or three weeks consulting with the client, preferably in the off-season for tourism, but, so far, he hasn't taken the hint.
