I can't speak for anyone else, but I have learned that if the only time you talk to a developer is when you need something to do your job, you may have trouble getting cooperation.

By contrast, I've always found that reciprocity goes a long way. If you show a willingness to be the office guru for word processors, or show an interest and a willingness to help out with interface design or usability testing, people are far more likely to help you.

You don't need bribes - just a willingness to exchange favors.
