oh gee, i didn't intend for this to be so complicated.
on a user interface, canada is abbreviated as CA. i've already decided that this was unacceptable, but before i tell the developers to spell out the word in its entirety, i want to know what is the "correct" way to abbreviate it, if there is such a thing. i've tried googling this information, and i'm sure the answer is out there somewhere on the 14,987th listing or so, but i was hoping to avoid spending the day clicking all of them to find out. i thought a friendly canadian could help me out in a flash.

In which context? If you are sending something by mail, you just write
CANADA, if you want to specify a locale, you use en-ca or fr-ca, if you
want to talk about the Canadian currency you use CAD.
There is never a simple answer to a simple question...
