That's because most of the world is designed for right-handers
rather than for either left or right. Try doing everything with
equipment designed for use by lefties and see how long it takes
you to hurt yourself. :)
Contrariwise, a few days ago, the local paper ran an article on research that found that the occurence of left-handedness was higher in societies with a higher level of violence. The researchers suggested that, in violent societies, left-handedness is a survival trait, because the majority don't know how to handle a left-handed blow. In my very brief career as a fighter in the SCA, I found that to be true.
