When it happened to me I looked around at what others were charging
compared to my basic staff rate - most seemed to be charging 50-65%
above the staff rate. As others have said I'd the option of going
slightly under that or pushing it to the limit. I went just under (very
few contractors here that I could find, mainly companies with overheads)
- good for me and it guaranteed the work which was what I needed at the
time. During my time doing that I got my advertising etc up and running
and got the next contract up and running.
Currently back as a 'permie' but I still get reports from the job boards
and the market seems to be picking up again.
