As others, short answers:

1. Southern Illinois University at Carbondale
2. Computer programming, writing, training (Data Processing Training
Systems)
3. Planned by creating my own technical writing degree based on School
of Technical Careers specialized Bachelor's program. Decided to go into
when I was pursuing programming classes inspired by the low quality of
IBM documentation of the era (early 80s) with the thought "I could do
better than that!"
4. I think there will be enough jobs for those at the top of the field
for around 20 years or so. The field will be continue to be very
competitive, more difficult to start as an entry level person, and will
require a higher level of and more diversity in skills than it may have
say, 5-10 years ago.

In addition, some of us will diversify into the Business Analyst or
other related fields. The field as we know it will continue to thin out
in the ensuing decades especially in software technical writing. More
speculation will push this thread into a shakey "futurist" stance. Not
that we aren't pushing threads to the limits these days, but...
