I know this is very silly, but does anyone out there know what SID stands
for when it's about an Oracle instance? The content owner knows that a SID
is the Oracle instance identifier but doesn't know what the acronym stands
for.

I haven't yet found anything helpful through the Oracle website. I hoped for
a glossary, but was disappointed. I found a reference in an Oracle 8i
textbook that tells you that Windows also uses the acronym SID but that in
the book SID refers only to Oracle instances. But they don't tell you what
SID means.

On the brighter side(!), I've learned so much trying to find out! Apparently
SID is both the airport code for Sal, Cape Verde, and the currency code for
the Solomon Island dollar. Pub quiz, anyone?

Thanks,

Elizabeth OShea
