I'm gonna participate in NaNoWriMo this year, too. This will be my first
year.
I feel like it will be like Ana P. said: It's a mondo-blast to clean
writer's block out of the plumbing.
Don't know what a 'mondo-blast' is, but it's probably good.
When asked why she didn't finish all of her NaNoWriMo competitions, she
wrote:
Because I was too self-critical of the work to stomach continuing. It
takes
a lot of guts to . . . But after it's solidified for a month or so,
January reading of your "novel" can be a very pleasant surprise.
That also makes it good for me. I have tried writing fiction a bit. I
like it, but it's hard for me to turn off my internal editor and just
write.
I had learned about NaNoWriMo a few years ago, but my motivation for
participating this year came from a California TW, Matthew Arnold Stern,
who is also participating and has some excerpts of his fiction writing
on his Web site.
NOTE: NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. (It reminds me
of na ni nu ne no, which is a string of Japanese syllables that you
memorize when learning Japanese). Their Web site is http://www.nanowrimo.com.
