When permanent employees ask me how I can endure the tension of contracting, I
tell them, "The only difference between your employment conditions and mine is
that I know when my employment is going to end."

Usually, they take a moment to get the implication - and then they grin ruefully.

The fact is, contractors often have more specific protection than full-time
employees, whether they're off-shore or not. The contract often specfies terms
and conditions that aren't in the standard employee's contract, especially in a
smaller company.
