Perhaps the job of managing the entire TECHWR-L brand is too large for anyone presently out there. While one might hope that there is still time for an appropriately dedicated and insane person or team to step forward, let's face it: TECHWR-L is a rare thing: A working community-enterprise. The likelihood seems slim. Fingers are still crossed and all that, but ...
Consider severing, or at least weakening, the relationship between the mailing list and the site. Would a suitable candidate (sponsor, volunteer, or buyer) be more willing to support, manage, or acquire "just" the list? Just the site? Of course some crossover "rights" to content from one to the other would be nice, but other than not stepping on those rights, each could operate independently.
Personally, I do not use the site much and would not miss it if it were gone. Do not take this to mean I do not recognize the value the site has for others or that I do not admire the work and effort gone into it. I am *not* saying it is a bitwaste or poorly done or anything along those lines ... it just doesn't meet any needs I have at the time.
The list, however, is valuable to me. I would hate to see it fail together with the site if it might survive on its own. While TECHWR-L has thrived under the light moderation Eric has provided over the years (primarily providing gentle reminders to stay on-topic), I do believe it would continue to be a valuable resource (if a bit more noisy than signally) without that steadying hand.
Anyhow, thanks, Eric and Deb, for the contribution you have made and the thought and care with which I trust you will usher TECHWR-L into its next incarnation.
