Well, I own a number of music CDs I bought way back in the late 80s,
when CDs were first coming in, and so far as I know, they're all still
in perfectly good shape.  (I haven't played any of them all the way
through for awhile.)

Now what you could do, given that blank CDs aren't all that expensive
anymore, is make a new copy of your archive every five years or so.

Hi Folks,
Can anyone shed light on the longevity of CDs? I hear differing
opinions. Is it safer to archive data on HD or CD? I'm talking long
term, like with a growing collection of digital pictures for example.
This can apply to backups also. But will my little daughter be able to
view images on a CD ten, twenty, thirty years from now? And will my
backup be safe even 5 years from now?
