Subject:RE: Multiple TOCs in Word 200? From:"Laurel Hickey" <lhickey -at- 2morrow -dot- bc -dot- ca> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- raycomm -dot- com> Date:Wed, 28 Apr 2004 10:29:29 -0700
Yes they can... I'm using Word XP but I'm sure this functionality
predates Word 2000.
The best way to do TOCs is to use custom heading styles, not the
Word-standard ones. For TOCs pointing to the different languages, simply
create styles such as aa-H1-en and aa-H1-fr and so forth for each
language or whatever variation you needed. The aa- at the beginning of
the styles is to put them at the top of the style list and differentiate
them from the Word styles you can't get rid of. Make sure you set the
correct "outline level" for the style (in paragraph formatting of all
places) ... this will also be useful for navigating through the document
using the document map or outline view.
Then go INSERT > REFERENCE > INDEX and TABLES and choose "options" ...
You can then select the styles to use and what level of TOC you want
them to appear on.
Tell it not to replace your existing TOC when it asks.
This is also good for doing Tables of Authors, etc.
