It pays to remember that statistics taken out of context are 
meaningless: If those hits were from university grammar sites or 
editorial discussion groups, they're credible. If they're from high 
school blogs, you can safely ignore them unless you're writing a thesis 
on teenage slang.

Google is a powerful tool for surveying modern usage among a very 
specific audience (those who use computers to communicate), but don't 
count on it to automatically inform you whether the results of a search 
are credible. For that, there's still no substitute for a little human 
brainpower.
