I've moved to a new company :) and I need your help.

The first challenge presented to me is to find or develop a solution to the
problems we currently have with version control.

We have multiple authors and multiple reviewers who are in a variety of
locations. Currently docs are handed off for review on CD or via our FTP
server. We are winding up with several copies when it comes time to release
them. Of course, there is a problem with which is the latest revision and
does it have all the revisions included. The authors (engineers) work in
Word. The final layout and collation is done in FrameMaker. The final
deliverables are a hard copy (typically 10 volumes of ~600+ pages) and a
pdf.

A software solution similar to CVS or VSS is preferred, but a usable
"manual" system would be better than the current situation.

Documentum has been mentioned as a possibility, but I don't know that much
about it and haven't been able to find any good information on it, yet.

Primavera Expedition has been looked at and rejected. It does not have the
capabilities we need.

All experiences, recommendations, and ideas are welcome.

TIA
