I can't speak for anyone else on the list, but I got the
impression from your original post that the situation was
the reverse, that someone wanted you to take the course
and you were looking for someone to tell you what good it
would do you. I didn't reply because, frankly, I get
enough of that from the people *I* want to send out for
training.

With your original question clarified, my answer would
be that developers are making increasing use of XML to
define internal parameters, and that learning more about
the processes used in the product will improve the tech
writer's ability to document it.
