For many folks, that's a tough one. The desire to do the best job, to
provide the best product sometimes needs a reality check. I worked with
a woman who worked six months of 12-14 hour days, 7 days a week to write
a macro reference to Excel, back in the '80s. It was a great book, but I
dunno if the end users really could tell any difference in quality or
completeness.

I don't. I wish I did. OH gawd, do I wish I knew how to do that easily.
It is always a long process of education and cooperation with other
folks on the team to even make a stab at it.
