>That is how the global economy is supposed to
>work out for us knowledge workers. I am
>really looking forward to having it play out
>well for me, like the gig you described.
This is all well and good. However, different things make different
people are happy. Personally, being able to telecommute is not a biggee,
because it doesn't fit in with my current style.
OTOH, to some, being able to telecommute is the key. To others, an
unlimited budget for toys (though I sure would like that 26" second
monitor). Others, (like me), the lack of discouragement when I want to
trying new techniques, new methods of delivery, new approaches.
Oh, yeah...and being able to listen to music while I work (out of my
office is coming Vivaldi, out of the writer across the hall is coming
Techno and Eurotrance, and out of my manager's office, Clapton new CD of
Robert Johnson pieces. It's a very interesting-sounding hallway.
The trick is for the manager to find what it is that squeezes out that
last bit of performance from each worker.
"Impossible is just a big word
thrown around by small men
who find it easier to live in a world
they've been given than to explore
the power they have to change it.
Impossible is not a fact...it's an opinion
Impossible is nothing"
