Sorry, I don't cut any slack here. If a writer doesn't get any slack because of the previous writer's screwups, then same goes for the managers. Management is about taking responsibility, not blaming the previous administration. Which is why it sucks to be a middle manager - responsibility without authority.

If you've never been a manager, your mind
might boggle at how difficult it can be to fire someone.

...and yet, somehow, management has heroically learned how to overcome this particular difficulty.
