I have to disagree with you here. It is the smaller markets that benefit most from SEO and search engine position. Those of us who have created tech-writing web sites are competing with 7 million web sites. The chances of getting a good position are much lower than they would be if we were competing against fewer sites.

Just another data point from my experience: I have a website with my professional info, mainly for convenience, and I have put zero effort into SEO. However, in the last few months, several potential clients have contacted me because they found that web site. That's almost unprecedented.

Is it possible that recruiters are abandoning the job boards and just using Google instead? The job boards are now almost useless for jobseekers, and I imagine they must be equally useless for recruiters. And Google just keeps getting 'better' (or more invasive, depending on your perspective).
