I have a Visio file with two drawings (for the sake of discussion, we can
call them Drawing 1, the original drawing, and Drawing 2, a second drawing
I added to the file), and I want to link each drawing to different
location in a Word 2000 document. I select Insert > Object from the Word
Menu bar, choose the Create from File tab, browse to the Visio I want to
add and click Link to File checkbox. This action inserts a LINK field
code, and displays the first drawing in my Visio file. When I check the
documentation for the LINK field code, it shows me this code: { LINK
ClassName "FileName" [PlaceReference ] [Switches ] }. The description of
the PlaceReference tells me that it "Identifies the portion of the source
file that is being linked." It then tells me that if the linked object is
from a Word document, the PlaceReference refers to a bookmark and if the
linked object is from Excel, it can refer to cell references of named
ranges of cells. Note that it does not indicate how to specify which
WORKSHEET in Excel to use in the link. (Does it default to the first
worksheet? Or can you ONLY use the first worksheet?)

The actual field code is: { LINK Visio.Drawing.6
"C:\\WorkingFolder\\ProjectFolder\\Visiofile.vsd" "" \a \p}. So I figure
the PlaceReference for the drawing I want would go in the second set of
double quitation marks: { LINK Visio.Drawing.6
"C:\\WorkingFolder\\ProjectFolder\\Visiofile.vsd" "Drawing2" \a \p}. No
dice. Word tells me this is not a valid link. So perhaps the
PlaceReference actually goes in the first set of quotation marks: { LINK
Visio.Drawing.6 "C:\\WorkingFolder\\ProjectFolder\\Visiofile.vsd Drawing
2" "" \a \p}. No again. Also not a valid link. I've checked the MS MVP
site and a couple of other locations, but have not found anything help for
this problem. Can the PlaceReference property of the LINK field code only
be used for Excel and Word and no other applications? Am I asking more of
Word than it can deliver? I really don't want to maintain two separate
Visio files if I can maintain two drawings in the same file. And I'd like
to avoid the hassle of converting the drawings to graphics to insert them.

I would appreciate any help with this problem.
