why not just cut to the chase and ask how long a piece of string is?

But seriously, these are quite good questions, but there aren't any simple answers to
most of them. I guess I, and a lot of other SGML/XML consultants would be out of work f
there were ;-)

The question of what the advantages/disadvantages of one of the things you list is far too
relative to the context. DocBook is, for example, not much use for marking up your music
collection ... but that might also be an advantage. The same applies for the discussion of
tools ... EMACS is great for down-and-dirty, Frame (structured) is the perfect tool to give
to writers who do not want to be too concerned about the SGML/XML behind it. It's all
horses for courses and, while it makes for some interesting discussion, I don't think the
answers offered will be much use to anyone.
