I and several others I know moved into management.

Others I know moved into a consulting role/sole
proprietorship.

I know of writers who are now programmers, QA
engineers, trainers, and custom support engineers.

I know of a writer who now owns a restaurant. Another
who is a bartender. One who is a doctor. One who is a
stay-at-home dad.

I even know of a male writer who is now a female
writer. But that's getting very off-topic.

So, what jobs are tech writers likely to move toward?
I don't think there's a clear answer. It's kind of
like asking what a baby will grow up to be. The
possibilities are endless. It's up to the person, not
the current role.
