Thanks, John. I didn't scoop that in my search. I'm connected. I need to 
create synonyms, which is easy.
        select * from global_name;

To create the link, I used the following syntax on the local db server:
CREATE DATABASE LINK <remote_global_name>
CONNECT TO <schema_name> IDENTIFIED BY <password>
USING '<Remote_NetServiceName>';

Vicki, you're probably right about Enteprise Manager, but I only see the 
TNS Name. Part of that is my lack of experience with Enteprise Manager and 
bias toward SQL.
