Like I said, Goober, you've evidently been lucky.
A writer does not necessarily have any say in these
matters. Sometimes yes, but sometimes it's "this is
what you'll deliver, this is when you'll deliver it,
now shut up and do it." I've been in both situations.

Having learned my lesson, as little as possible, at the
moment. Only what's tolerable. But in the past?
What you recommended, I think. Irritating things like
suggesting how to improve efficiency and quality. Or
merely bringing greater experience and expertise to the
table, in one's own field, than one's supervisor commands.
If you've never worked for a non-writer who feels he must
continually demonstrate that he knows more about writing
the writers do, again you've been lucky.
