Hello all,

I can actually answer this question. The husband and I wrote an Oracle book and the publisher was going to "withdraw" $3.50 per page from us, which was half of the indexer's per page rate to have our book indexed. I have saved myself and my co-authors money by doing the indexing myself. $7/page is low, and indexing is hard, IMO. So Chuck is absolutely correct.

I bought Horton's Online book when it first came out and
refuse to buy anything else by him until he learns to index!

Not to defend Horton, but I have to ask: was the indexing done by him?

I do believe that many, if not most, book publishers have professional
indexers in their employ to perform that task.
