Believe me, working in a job that requires a clearance while you are uncleared is a huge PITA.<<

To further complicate things, when you are working in this particular position, you are often billed as "Overhead." Not a whole lot of companies are willing to do that for too long. That said, again, they are looking for people who have current, not necessarily active, clearances.
