TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I currently work in an "open-plan" cubicle office. It's good for exchange of work-related information. If I need some privacy, we have these "fishbowls" (alcoves) that we can go into, or I can don my headphones.
At a previous job in VA, they housed our team in an old meat locker. Okay, not really, but the building we were in was a Safeway grocery store at one time, and the area we sat in used to be where the meat locker and butcher shop was located. So, the area we sat in got nicknamed "the meat locker." We sat fairly close together at terribly non-ergonomic desks. It didn't help that the microwave was about six feet away, either. People should never microwave leftover fish... ever.

..*Worst environment I ever worked in was an 8 X 10 office.
..*Sounds pretty good, eh?

..*Yeah, too good for a tech writer. So they stuffed three of us in there.
..*One guy and I sat back to back, so close that we had to coordinate
..*movement anytime one or the other of us got up.
