RE: ADMIN: Civility and content
But (and I use a specific name here because Eric did so) what about the Geoff Harts of the world? He posts several times a day, and each of them is well-thought-out, gracious, and helpful (IMHO), whether or not one knows or can specifically use what he is even writing about. Limiting folks such as Geoff (and he's the best and most obvious example, but not the only one) would be a major detriment to the list, from where I sit.
So start from the other direction.
I'm told there is currently a posting limit in place. (Haven't hit it, so I don't know what it is.) Start with that. Every time someone posts something that raises Eric's blood pressure*, that person's posting limit is decreased by 1. Eventually, nit-pickers will have a limit of zero and Eric will have the time and energy to join in the conversations again.
In the interest of fairness, and on the assumption that adults can learn from the consequences of their actions, after a day or two of enforced inactivity the posting limit can start to rise again. As long as the person maintains a civil tongue...er...typing thumb, the limit continues to rise until it again reaches the starting value.
Look at it as a programming exercise. It's a pretty simple algorithm, after all; the only tricky part is hooking it into Eric's blood pressure monitor.
