They were tech oriented from the beginning (1824),
that won them grants, which allowed them to grow their
technical scope, which won more grants, which allowed
them to grow, and get more grants, and grow, and
grants, grow, grants...

And then came along the anonymous donors... one of
which dropped $30 million in RPI's lap. Not too
shabby...
