So, where can I find out which spellings of this word are registered
trademarks? Nobody around here seems to know!

Trademarks are a complicated issue. For starters, they normally apply only to certain product categories, so if there is a plumber tool named Robox, it is often no problem to sell a computer utility with the same name.

The spelling is usually immaterial. Thus, you could get into trouble for selling a car under the name Kriesler, despite the fact that the spelling is different from Chrysler.

There are no pending trademarks (you were probably thinking of patents), and trademarks do NOT need to become registered to be valid. (This is somewhat similar to copyright.

You should probably talk to a lawyer specializing in such issues - this is not an area where laypeople tread easily.

Jan Henning
