Yes, this is an important freedom, one which I have used myself more
than once. But fortunately this is not the *only* freedom in the
workplace (in the US, anyway).
This is actually happening in some industries; nursing and teaching are
both currently experiencing 'shortages' in the midst of a weak job
market. Mid-career nurses/teachers are quitting, and new student
enrollments are down, against the trend.
Not likely to affect tech writers, though.
