You described both my previous position and the type of writer I
replaced at my current position. In the former case, I left for a
higher paying job. In the latter, I simply tossed all the former
writer's junk in the cyber-trashcan and started over. (He produced so
little that this was the easiest option.) My advice is to let Motel Guy
hang himself. Concentrate on the quality of your own work. I've also
found it helpful to silently make fun of less skilled people.
