Depends on where you are. Here in Silicon Valley, job titles have been meaningless
for over 20 years. A partial list (that is, everything I can recall off the top of my head)
of titles I have held or observed for technical writers:

technical writer
information developer
information development engineer
document specialist
research engineer
information engineer
tech pubs yahoo
document goddess (seriously, I actually saw the business card)
