Funny thing, when I read Hal's post I didn't see it as an "ad." He described the job as being
in a group "to which he was assigned," not one that he was managing or had the authority to
hire or advertise for (though I suppose that he could have had something to gain personally
by submitting someone's resume with an employee referral form of some kind). So if I work
in a dept that has an opening as an employee, is it an "ad" if I tell people that there's an opening
where I work, or is that "networking?" I was actually wondering about that before Hal's post,
because I subscribe to another email list that companies post jobs to, and got an email about
a job I wasn't inclined to apply for. I guess we shouldn't offer to pass such leads on to anyone
here.

No, he doesn't. All he has to do is talk things over with Eric (who has always struck me as a reasonable human being, especially considering the provocation he must be under some times), pay for his advertising and submit it in the proper way - something he agreed to do when he signed up.
