but nobody has really come up with a reasoned, logical
argument of how a document error was not the responsibility of the author.
Rubbish. It has been repeatedly pointed out that, e.g., if a product changes after the documentation has to be finished, the inaccuracy is not the responsibility of the writer. (Unless of course he or she was also hired as a clairvoyant.)
Furthermore, I do not think that anybody has argued that a writer has no responsibility for the contents of their documents. It has only been pointed out that there are limits beyond which the responsibility reasonably must rest with others.
A pattern repeats here that we have seen in many previous discussions: One participant puts up an absolute position. When it is pointed out to him that this position is in fact too absolute (in that there are real-world situations in which it cannot be said to apply any more), he choses to argue as if somebody has taken the opposite of his position.
Of course, in this discussion, as in so many before, nobody has really taken this opposite position. I'm curious how long this fact will take to get through, if it indeed eventually does get through.
